These founders are really smart and talented people, but at the same time, I’m noticing glaring issues in their marketing strategies, positioning, messaging, and so on …
The issues might be obvious to me, but it got me thinking - with all of the great content about SaaS marketing, why is it so hard to get it right?
I could write a book about the topic (I’ve been head of marketing at four SaaS startups) but here’s the gist of it:
Marketing challenges for SaaS startups:
1️⃣ It’s hard to know if you’re doing it right
2️⃣ Most content is either too general or too specific
3️⃣ What worked for them won’t work for you
4️⃣ You can’t stand on the shoulders of others (like devs can)
5️⃣ What got you here won’t get you there
6️⃣ It’s a zero-sum game
7️⃣ It’s never “done
